When a Man Cries - A time lapse oil painting by Ladessa Sullivan

It may not be apparent but I spent 8 long hours painting in my spiritual cave without ever leaving my desk. (give or take, including the time it took to unload my camera and make room for more footage). I prepared the canvas and added a coat of a very dark gray, then allowed it to dry before applying the image you see within the video. "When a Man Cries" is a combination of my old sketch styles and my new painting styles. Those who understand painting would probably agree with me when I say a style like this is easier done with acrylic paint rather than oil. Acrylic paint dries faster and holds in place, while oil paint takes much longer to dry and it's very blend-able... to the point that it's easily smudged, and much harder to control when trying to accomplish certain styles. It takes practice, skill, and technique, but once you have learned to manage the consistency of oil paint, you can enjoy the forgiveness for mistakes, and diversity it offers. Why the title? That's easy for me to answer. This like all of my other paintings was not pre-sketched or contemplated, but the topics within my subconscious came forth. Observations in combination with the fact that weeks before-hand I kept watching the video for "Who's Gonna Save My Soul?" by Gnarls Barkley, probably played a part. (In hindsight, the male figure reminds me of cee-lo, but moreso, my mother's husband. It's funny how some images really take root in our minds even when we don't realize it.) This is my perception of a man in pain. Perhaps confused about love and life, possibly stressed, hurt or agitated to the point of complacency concerning relationships, defensive, maybe even resorting to egotism or extreme pride at times... amongst other things. Anything to cloak his true pain in a chaotic world that doesn't consider it manly to cry or reveal too much vulnerability. There's more to this painting, but I think the title summarizes the meaning I wanted to get across. (ps. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. People are born young and they grow old. Physical beauty can only last for so long, but what lives on forever is the heart. It may pass on, but the spirit of the heart lives on forever. I painted this piece using a watercolors, makeup and pencil. The subject is Aerith and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. One of my Favorite RPG. It was beyond a video game, because you would live in a different reality, every time you turned your PlayStation on.

The Fantasy Art of Boris Vallejo
Born in Lima, Peru, Boris attended the National School of Fine Arts in his native country before immigrating to the United States in 1964. He has since done a great volume of work for the Fantasy field, having worked for virtually every major publishing house with a science fiction/fantasy line. Boris has also illustrated for album covers, video box art and motion picture advertising. His mastery of oil painting is immediately and abundantly clear to anyone who looks at his work, and his classic sense is as much an homage to the old masters as it is to anyone contemporaneously working in the Fantasy genre. Beautiful Sexy Fantasy Art by Luis Royo and Other works.Luis Royo (born 1954 in Olalla, Spain[1]) is a Spanish artist, known for his sensual and dark paintings, its apocalyptic imagery, his fantasy worlds and mechanical life forms. He has also recently moved into sculpture. Royo has produced paintings for both his own books and exhibitions and other media; such as video games, music CD and novels covers, tarot cards. He is famous for his work collected in books published worldwide. [edit] Education and early years Shortly after his birth, Royo's family moved to Zaragoza, where he first started school, his first memories are accompanied with drawing which plays an important role in his life. His practical standpoint, acquired from his economically humble family, led him to study Technical Drawing for construction. He soon discovered that geometric forms did not satisfy him fully. Later, he began to study painting, decoration and interior design at the Industrial School and the School of Applied Arts, and combined with different jobs in interior design and decoration studios in 1970 and 1971. During this time he also combined his work with paint. Influenced by the student revolts of May 1968, he painted large format tiles with social issues and made exhibitions from 1972 to 1977. The discovery of adult comics with the work of artists such as Enki Bilal and Moebius captive him in 1978 and started drawing comics for different fanzines and comics exhibiting at the Angoulême Comic Fair in 1980. In 1979 he left his job as a furnish designer, despite already having a child, to devote himself entirely to comics. In 1981 and 1982 began to publish in journals such as 1984, "Comix Rambla Internacional", and sometimes, in "El Vibora" and "Heavy Metal".
